Dr. Mursyid: The 'Architect' of National Youth Development

“I firmly believe that the future of the nation is determined by the quality of the people we nurture today.

“To me, young people are not merely a demographic group; they are a strategic national asset that requires continuous investment in knowledge, values, skills, and leadership. I chose to pursue studies in youth development and human resource development at university because this field lies at the intersection of education, the economy, society, and public policy.”

These remarks aptly summarise the career aspirations and professional journey of Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Mursyid Arshad, 39, a Senior Lecturer in Youth Development and Director of the Centre for Co-Curriculum and Student Development at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Widely regarded as an expert—or the “architect” of youth development in Malaysia—Dr. Mursyid has brought distinction to UPM by receiving the Young Innovators Creating a Better World for All Award at the ASEAN Women Economic Forum (WEF) 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nurturing and empowering young people.

His expertise is also highly sought after in the design and implementation of high-impact research that shapes the strategic direction of youth development and national education policies in Malaysia.
